Theaters of Trauma: Dialogues for Healing
< back

Review from Michel Lariviere:

Richard Raubolt doesn’t write for the neighborhood. He is not interested in purifying the dialect of the tribe, he doesn’t write for his peers only. The language he uses humbly embodies a closely observed and felt reality. It has immediacy and concreteness. Raubolt knows whereof he speaks by personal experience, and that sense of empathy is aptly conveyed. Each of the stories here presented re-enacts moments of signal truth or crisis in the patients’ lives. One of the things best conveyed is how the precise motives and genesis of madness, silent or loud, forever remain obscure, and that therein lies the greatest difficulty of the work undertaken by both patient and analyst. No lesson is given here. In each of its essays, this book is consistent with its abiding preoccupation: how to endure despair, how to put up with madness, how to bear otherness.
